Motor choice Inside F5J

Well, The bullet is through the church (as we say in dutch…). After long searching on the Hobbyking website, during which Hobbyking changed their category layout (nice work guys! Now I realy can’t find anything anymore and it was shit to begin with!!!), we have made our choices for the Inside F5J Hobbyking motor and servo’s setup. Basically, we have chosen a setup of about €100,- (ex transport), which I think is quite good, compared to the advised setup with the Hacker motor/esc and the graupner servos. The latter would set you back approximately €350,-. This effectively means that we can afford to f#ck up our setup about 3 times… Sounds good to me!

Here she is! The beautiful hart of our INSIDE-F5J. We have chosen the Turnigy 2217 20turn 860kv 22A Outrunner.Inside F5J Hobbyking motor choice: Turnigy 2217 20turn 860kv 22A Outrunner
Specs of this motor:
-Kv: 860rpm/v
-Operating Current: 6A ~ 17A
-Peak Current: 19A
-Weight: 72g
-Dimensions: 27.6 x 36mm
-Shaft Size: 3.175mm As the advertised motor has a diameter of 28mm, we should be good to go to stuff this one in the same spot! The motor is slightly more heavy than the 50g of the Hacker motor, but that means that we need to bring back the battery a tad bit to balance out the CG.
Performance Data:
Voltage Current Prop Thrust
11.1V 16.3A 10×7 970g
11.1V 17.9A 11×4.7 1040g
As we would be running a 10×6 prop, Thrust would be around 950g. No Unlimited Vertical but good enough for the girls I go out with! We could bump the thrust by looking for another prop like a 10×4.7 to bring the lady in to Match-mode…

Speed controler choice Inside F5J

The Speedcontroler is a trusty Turnigy PLUSH – 40A. This ESC has a 5 amp BEC so to supply enough power to the 8 servos and receiver. As the motor needs approximate 20A peak power, we should be safe with the max power of 40A of this ESC
Specs:
Cont Current: 40A
Burst Current: 55A
BEC Mode: Linear
BEC : 5v / 5A
Lipo Cells: 2-6
NiMH : 5-18
Weight: 39g
Size: 60x28x15mm

Servo’s choice Inside F5J

We have chosen the Turnigy™ TGY-EX5202MG analog servo, 8 pieces of them.Inside F5J Hobbyking Servo choice: Turnigy™ TGY-EX5202MG These are all metal gear and double ball bearing. It was most difficult to find a servo that would fit in the pre-constructed pockets of the plane. Especially the thickness of 9mm proved to be challenging. Anyhow, I think we (@maxxie01) succeeded, but lets talk again once everything is constructed and build!
Specs:
Voltage: 4.8~6V
Speed @ 4.8V: 0.12 Sec/60° (no load)
Speed @ 6.0V: 0.10 Sec/60° (no load)
Torque @ 4.8V: 2.4 Kg/cm
Torque @ 6.0V: 2.8 Kg/cm
Gears: Metal
Bearings: 2 x Ball Bearing
Motor: Cored
Type: Analog
Servo Plug: JR type
Servo Lead Length: 260mm
Dimensions: 23.3 x 9.4 x 26mm
Weight: 12.4g (inc lead and plug)

Update (28-10-2017)

I’ve tested the setup and compared the chosen motor on a proper test bench (Rcbenchmark 1520) and compared this against a NTM PROPDRIVE v2 2830 1100KV. Surprising results, if I may say so!. Read the full article here: Setup test for the Inside F5J: Turnigy 2217 860kv vs. PROPDRIVE v2 2830 1100KV
